Sirjan University of Technology is a university located in Sirjan, Kerman Province. The first building of this university was established in 1992 and in 1993, with the introduction of the field of mechanical engineering, solids orientation, it began to operate daily under the supervision of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman.
Also, in 1997, the day course of the civil engineering field was added to this faculty. In 1999, the night course of these fields was also opened in the faculty, and in 2003, the associate degree program in computer science, software orientation, was added to this faculty in both day and night courses.
During Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s first visit to Sirjan, it was decided that this faculty would be separated from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman and continue its work independently as a technical university.
After these approvals, due to the lack of effort by the authorities, this did not happen, and for a while there were whispers that students entering this faculty in previous years should also obtain a degree from the Sirjan Higher Education Complex and that this faculty should definitely operate as a higher education complex for one year. In this regard, some students of this university staged a sit-in and refused to attend classes.
Of course, the students’ sit-in finally ended after a delegation was sent from the center to Kerman. During a meeting that was held, Dr. Lotfi, the Deputy Minister of Education of the Ministry of Science and representatives of students from the Faculty of Technology at Bahonar University, resolved the ambiguities that existed in this regard, and the students ended their protest.
Dr. Saheb Al-Zamani, the Vice President of Students at Bahonar University, also traveled to Sirjan and negotiated with the students, and the students accepted the conditions and attended the classes.
In 2009, the students entering this faculty in 2009 entered this center with an amendment that was posted on the Sanjesh Organization website before choosing a major, under the title of acceptance of the Sirjan Higher Education Complex. In February 2009, following the approval of the Higher Education Development Council of the Sirjan Higher Education Complex, it was upgraded to Sirjan University of Technology.
This university is currently continuing its activities with the addition of computer engineering and chemical engineering majors with 2,600 students. Up to now, 3 faculty buildings have been built with an infrastructure of 10,000 square meters. This university has a total of 4 buildings within the university, the oldest of which is the Faculty of Mechanics, followed by the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the library, and the sports hall. There are also 3 dormitory buildings for male and female students. In 2009, the university’s self-service dormitory building was opened with an infrastructure of 5,500 meters.
In 2010, with the approval of the Higher Education Development Center, the establishment of a master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering – Applied Design was approved at this university, and this university has been accepting students in this field at the master’s level since October 2011.
In October 2012, with the addition of three undergraduate majors in electrical power engineering, engineering sciences, and robotics engineering, an important step was taken in realizing industrialization. Including the increase in these three majors, the number of students reached 2,700 in 13 undergraduate majors.
